The center of Wayne was designated as an historic district in 2012. The town is lively, with plenty of foot traffic in the good weather, without being noisy or congested.

The town was originally named Louella, after founder J. Henry Askin's daughters Louisa and Ella. It was renamed Wayne after General Anthony Wayne in 1880 when Askin's and surrounding land were purchased.

Children living in Wayne can attend the public schools of Radnor Township, ranked 19th out of 553 districts in the state, Tredyffrin Township, ranked 6th, or Upper Merion, ranked 125th, depending on where they live within Wayne. They could also choose to attend one of the numerous private schools located in the area.
