What is a loft anyway? There is no precise definition but generally there are two pertinent categories. There are 'hard lofts', which are conversions from warehouses and factories that feature high ceilings, exposed brick and beams, large windows, lofted bedrooms and no hard room dividers and there are 'soft lofts' which have been built with some of the hard loft features but have more emphasis on convenience and livability. Old City has the most loft units in Philadelphia, followed by the Northern Liberties and the Loft District (Callowhill) neighborhoods. Bella Vista, Fairmount, Fishtown, Washington Square West, Rittenhouse Square and Logan Square have loft buildings as well.
Searching for loft properties is imprecise because the search depends on real estate agents categorizing properties they list as lofts. Unfortunately, they don't always do that. The property list below contains homes that have been categorized as lofts. A better search would include properties where 'loft' is mentioned in the listing notes as well.
